Step by Step

Like everything else we have to search for anything with its correct and real address, and domain name plays a role in an online search.

We know that the Internet has become an integral part of our lives. Today it is used by everyone from individuals to business organizations and government agencies. With the development of the internet, many people can build successful business sites which will bring them huge revenue.

An important aspect of a website and investment is the domain name. Let’s talk about this topic and help you understand its importance of this topic.

What Is Blog Domain Even?

Basically, domain names for any website or blog are unique identifiers of the addresses we use to approach websites. It actually represents the numeric IP address of this website so that you can use client software to easily approach the websites. In simple words to understand, instead of using a number to identify and approach a site, we use the text of the domain name.

Simply put, a domain name is a text that you type into your browser window to visit a specific site.

For instance, if you want to search for something on Google, you would type “google.com”. However, do not confuse domain names and URLs. You can see both in the same window of your browser, but the URL includes the domain name, the transfer protocol used, and the path to the website.

If you have the URL:

“https://en.dreamsblogger.org/dreams/Domain_name", “HTTPS” represents the protocol used, “en.dreamsblogger.org” is the domain name, and “dreams” and “Domain name” are paths to specific pages.

How does Domain Name For Blog Work?

When you sit at your computer, laptop, or any device, you type the URL or domain name in your search bar, and you can find thousand of the desired sites in seconds. This is a process we are all used to and now we value. However, many things work behind the scenes to make this possible.

As mentioned earlier, each website has its own IP address stored on the server, just like every computer on the Internet has an IP address. However, there are many websites on the web, and these IP addresses can be long and difficult or impossible to remember.

This is where the (Domain Name System) comes in handy. The system is a vast network of servers around the world, and it connects people to websites using the IP addresses of those sites as identifiers. Domain Name System converts these numeric IPs into domains so that we can approach them more easily.

Blogging Domain Name Extensions

The domain name extension was introduced by in 1998 when the organization created the first six top-level domain extensions, such as .org, .gov, .mil, .edu, .net, and .com. Today, we all know about extensions, and we see and use them regularly.

These extensions were created to make it easier to categorize domain names into different groups and find them. For instance, institutions, government websites, and colleges primarily use the “.org” extension.

Plus point is that these extensions also reduce complications and offer more domain name options. So, for instance, you might have 2 identical domain names with different extensions. As the Internet evolved, so did domain extensions, and today there are 5 different categories (more on that below).

Why Domain Names Are Important?

If we talk about the importance of domain names, they are necessary for many reasons, but there are three basic things they work to accomplish.

One of the most important features of good domain names is to make a great first impression and help people remember your business. Potential users can instantly learn unique and easy-to-remember names.

Domain names can make it easy to help a brand develop and allow website visitors to more understand your business.

You can use domain names for search engine optimization (SEO) because websites can add their own keywords to their domain names. It is not necessary to use domains with exact keywords, but it is better to make them close and relevant.

Different Types Of The Domain Name With Examples

Different domain extensions convert how the entire URL looks. They all have a role because they affect the overall impression of the domain name. It is important to learn to distinguish extensions and understand their positioning.

Top-Level Domains

The highest level of domain extensions is Top-level domains (TLDs) in the ranking. It always appears at the end of the Web Address. Therefore they are also known as domain endings.

IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) allocates and manages these domains, regulates their existence, and sells rights to specific domain registrars.

At starting, ICANN offer six top-level domains, but as the Internet expanded, the demand for new unique domain names increased. Some of these are limited to specific organizations, such as .org, which can only be used by official websites.

Example

.com, .net, .mili, .gov, .edu, .org

Generic top-level domains

Top-level domains are also General Top Level Domains (gTLDs), but they show a thematic circle categorized into sponsored and non-sponsored gTLDs.

One sponsor restricts sponsored gTLDs, as organizations manage and control these domains. ICANN, on the other hand, and its partners centrally handle and control non-sponsored addresses. Initially, they provided these extensions only in certain circumstances because .net was exclusively for Internet providers, but today private individuals and companies can also use them.

Example

Sponsored:

.jobs, .mil, .gov, .aero

Unsponsored:

.pro, .mane, .biz

Second-Level Domains

Second-tier/level domains or SLDs are extensions selected under TLDs, and for that reason, they are often referred to simply as “domain names”.

Although they are below TLDs, they are more important in terms of SEO and user experience as they describe the keywords and content of the website.

Second-tier/level domains give companies and individuals the ability to add something that users can link to their websites and this will strengthen the brand.

Example

.example.com,.school.com,.marketing.biz

Third-Level Domains

Third-level domains or subdomains are not required, but you can add them before second-level domains. Users usually add them to provide a better structure of website pages and web content.

For example, it is possible to add different titles and language options to a third-level domain while giving it meaning and not renaming the domain.

It may be by default, that most websites have a “www” third-level domain, but this is not always the case, especially with large companies, because they have many pages and use www1 And www2 extensions.

Example

news.domain.co.uk, www.domain.co.uk

Country Code Top-Level Domains

ccTLDs (Country Code Top Level Domains) are domain extensions for countries, territories, and sovereign states. Country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) always have two letters that show each country.

The United Kingdom, for example, would be an extension of the (UK), but ICANN also assigns these extensions to the geographically isolated areas of its home countries.

In simple words, if you are building a site that meets the needs of a global audience, avoid ccTLDs. Usually, large countries that want specific websites use these extensions for local users.

Example

.uk, .fr, .us, .ca

When creating a website, selecting your domain name is one of the most important decisions you have to make.
